Day 8 Daniel Fast Devotional_Prayer Life_Jim and Tammy Stokes

HOW IS YOUR PRAYER LIFE?

Have you ever been asked that question? How comfortable did you feel in answering it? Unfortunately, most of us don’t really have a prayer “life”. At best, we have a lot of prayer “moments”, but not really a prayer life. All life originates with a father. I believe that most people, who really have a prayer life, also have a better understanding of and a more intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father who is the originator of all life.

In The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoffer, he writes “It matters little what form of prayer we adopt or how many words we use, what matters is the faith which lays hold on God and touches the heart of the Father who knew us long before we came to him. Genuine prayer is never “good works”, an exercise or a pious attitude, but always the prayer of a child to a Father….The child asks of the Father whom he knows. The right way to approach God is to stretch out our hands and ask of One who we know has the heart of a Father.”

So the next time and every time you approach God in prayer, first imagine you are a little child who is getting in the lap of your loving Heavenly Father. As He wraps His big arms around you, remember this: He is never too busy, too overwhelmed or uninterested. He is always there, waiting patiently for you with open arms and a deep love in His eyes. He also knows your need before you ask. Wow! What an awesome Father!! So just relax and rest in His unconditional love and acceptance.  You will touch His heart.  He will guarantee that you will have a prayer life that is always rich, abundant, spontaneous and fulfilling.
