Day 15 Daniel Fast Devotional_Trusting in Fathers Love_Eric and Sarah Patrick

Psalm 13:5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.

In an Internet marketing research study a few years ago, a man set up a website that said he would send a $100 bill to anyone that would mail him a return addressed envelope. Out of the thousands of people who saw his very generous and very real offer, less than a handful of people chose to trust the offer enough to send an envelope. And why would they with all the scams out there, with the many times they had been taken advantage of, and with the mountains of evidence they had to prove to themselves that this offer was fake too?

For many of us, this scenario rings true in our walk with God as our Father. Because of the many hurts, disappointments, and mountains of evidence, we have built a case against God and his love for us. How could he love someone so dearly who struggles with the same old sin, who isn’t performing at their peak 24/7/365, or who is still reeling from past offenses? We think he is good but wonder if he truly sees and loves us with the tenderness of a daddy.

In the midst of trial, hurt and heart sickness sometimes things are too cloudy to see clearly and to feel the Father’s love. But, just like David chose in Psalm 13, we can choose to trust in God’s unfailing love whether we feel it or not. We have learned from scripture that love is not an emotion, but rather a choice to lay down one’s life for another.

In the same way, believing that we are loved by the Father is a choice that may contradict our feelings and the evidence we can see in our current situation.

Let’s choose to please the Lord by receiving his love by faith regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in today. He is good and his love endures forever!
