Discovering Our Calling Through Our Passion

This morning my wife and I had to take our 7 year old daughter Libby, to see her pediatric cardiologist concerning an issue she has with her heart. This would seem to be a dreaded experience, especially when you have to repetitively visit this doctor! Nobody enjoys taking time out of their schedule to sit in doctors offices. With this situation, however, it is a surprisingly different story! Though we don’t like to see our daughter suffer with heart issues, and it is a hard process sometimes….. this doctor makes my daughter come alive.  He engages her, takes his time, and makes every moment enjoyable.   She laughs, giggles, helps push buttons on all of the expensive equipment, and tells funny stories back and forth to the doctor. What makes this doctor stand out from the rest? He is totally passionate about what he does! He is enjoying the visit as much as we are! After each appointment, we walk away realizing this is what he loves to do…he is not punching in and punching out…..rather he is living out his passion.

I love Gil Bailie’s quote: “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

So many people in the church strive to find their callings apart from what makes them come alive.  Yet, when we find our passion we  also find our motivation and vision.  It gets us up in the morning and drives us to make a positive impact. Then we are not doing out of obligation, but because we have joined with Jesus to use what HE has given us to impact this earth.  Once our passion is awakened and realized…then we build discipline, habit, endurance, and routine in our life. This discipline will compliment and extend our competence to walk out our calling.

Let’s all make a commitment today to find our passion to bring Him glory!  As John Bevere writes “A heart fully alive IS the glory of God”

Blessings

Ryan

God has shown me what makes me come alive! When I hear messages about the lost, I want to go play violin- my mind starts humming my current classical tunes. My latest one is rather complicated. I have to play two notes at the same time in parts of it. In some places, the composer put notes together that are painful to our ears. This happens in a beautiful sunrise too, in some places. These discordant notes add to the beauty of the whole piece. I like to find unique word pictures as I practice or I choose a Bible story to tell through the piece. When I first started this particular piece, I was thinking of the notes “painting” the most gorgeous sunrise ever. Now I’m thinking of the way each individual heart becomes so beautiful as we gaze on Christ. There are some broken parts, some well placed parts. But as we allow Him to put our hearts the way He likes them, the story of our hearts reflects Him and all His kindness. Many of the hearts of the people that many of us met last weekend at the park haven’t gazed on Christ very much. Their hearts don’t yet reflect Christ. May we be ever more sensitive to what He is saying to them right now! May we hear what they need to bloom and gaze on Him, and do it or say it at the right time. He is truly a master Composer. He knows what He longs to hear and see from each of us and them, too!

Thanks Ryan, that so speaks to my heart. I am realizing more and more that this is the only shot at this thing we get. This is not a trial run or a practice run. We truly only get one go around in this life. No second chances, no oops I think I can do it better next time. As many of you know my life’s prayer is” Father, Let me end well” As you know I do have some Passions and want to see God glorified in them. I love you and your family. Have a great day Bro. I mean Pastor Ryan.

I have heart problems myself, last week I went to my cardiologist and found out that the damage I had recklessly caused to my heart was now being reversed. This is all thanks to Jesus!! As soon as I fully gave my heart to Jesus He began to restore it.

Got something to say?
